            \u975e\u7ed3\u6784\u5316\u6458\u8981<\/strong>
            \nCombining antibiotics with plant sterols that have antibacterial activity is a method of increasing the effectiveness of the antibiotics. In this study, we synthesized \u00a0\u03b1-spinasterol from commercially available stigmasterol by a novel method in \u00a0order to increase its yield, and tested the combination of the \u03b1-spinasterol \u00a0with ceftiofur in vitro against four strains of pathogenic bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of stigmasterol, spinasterol and \u00a0ceftiofur against Escherichia coli, \u00a0Streptococcus pneumoniae CAU0070<\/em>, Salmonella pullorum cvcc533 and Staphylococcus aureus<\/em>were determined with \u00a0a tube dilution method. Results showed that MICs of \u03b1-spinasterol against the \u00a0four pathogenic microorganisms were the same for all (256 \u00b5g\/ml), or one-half \u00a0that of stigmasterol (512 \u00b5g\/ml), and much greater than the MIC of ceftiofur \u00a0(0.125 to 4 \u00b5g\/ml). The combination of \u03b1-spinasterol and ceftiofur were \u00a0strongly synergetic against the four bacterial strains; the fractional \u00a0inhibitory concentrations on E. coli<\/em>, S. pneumoniae CAU0070, S. pullorum cvcc533<\/em>, \u00a0and S. aureus<\/em>were 0.375, 0.375, \u00a00.533 and 0.5, respectively. In time-kill analyses, at concentrations above the \u00a0MICs, ceftiofur exhibited only time-dependency against the four pathogenic \u00a0microganisms, whereas ceftiofur in combination with \u03b1-spinasterol exhibited \u00a0time-dependency and concentration-dependency. We conclude that ceftiofur \u00a0combined with \u03b1-spinasterol, synthetized from stigmasterol by our method, is \u00a0effective against four pathogenic bacterial strains in vitro. Effectiveness of \u00a0this combination in vivo deserves investigation.<\/p>\n
